A more subdued version of the boldly patterned Ricepaper butterfly of Malaysia is the Champagne Ricepaper, found only on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The impressive wingspan is barely controlled by its diminutive, slight body and results in a lilting flight that is really more of a controlled glide. In spite of its inability to outrun predators, the numbers of Champagne Ricepapers remain strong in the wild because of its poisonous unpalatability.
